Piano and keyboard lessons at The Musician’s Studio are given on a grand piano or studio size uprights which both have an excellent “feel” in larger than average rooms unlike the small cubicles found in other local studios and music stores. Playing on multi-sounding keyboards is also introduced to supplement the “plain” piano sound and touch that many students seem to lose interest in.
At the beginner level, different styles from Blues to Bach to Rock become the medium in which you learn how to play. Concepts such as basic notation, scales, chord voicing, harmony, ear training and sight reading are studied as they apply to contemporary songs. There is an emphasis on technique: hand position, finger strength, and independence along with flexibility and control.
More advanced lessons involve less of the “note for note” approach. Teachers will discuss how to accompany a vocalist and how to read a guitar chart and come up with your own keyboard parts instead of depending on what’s written on the page.
