We at The Musician’s Studio believe that the violin and viola, like the piano, are excellent introductory instruments for young children. Our instruction is theory-based, with emphasis on music reading, ear-training, scales and intonation/playing in tune.
Children as young as three years old can begin to play on a correctly-sized violin, viola or cello. We would be happy to give advice to any parent when it comes to choosing the correct size for a beginner if the student does not yet own an instrument.
Beginning violin, viola and Cello students will learn how to handle and care for their instrument, how to hold and use the bow, while moving at their own pace from playing open strings toward playing simple melodies.
Intermediate and advanced players learn to play in the third and more advanced fingering positions, as well as playing solo compositions appropriate to their level and personal musical interests.
Repertoire will include classical, religious, folk, and fiddle compositions and we are always welcome to assist with specific school orchestral music that any student needs to learn or ‘polish’ for recitals throughout the school year.
